Your First Razor Clam Dig: How to Get Your 15

Start with the sand, then learn the movement.

Find a show

Look for a small dimple, hole or raised mark in wet sand. A show is a clue, not a guarantee. Watch an experienced digger and ask for a pointer.

Use the gun with care

Center the tube over the show, work it down with controlled pressure, cover the vent and lift the sand plug. Bend your knees and avoid wrenching your back. Check the plug and hole gently for the clam. Use WDFW’s digging demonstration for the full technique.

Count as you go

Follow the current WDFW limit and retention rules. Keep the first clams you dig, including broken or small ones, as required. Keep each digger’s catch separate. “Get Your 15” is an invitation to learn, not a guarantee of a limit.
